New Year’s Games

Play traditional Cambodian games this Saturday and win prizes!

When: Saturday, April 17th, 2010. After lunch, at about 12:20 pm.
Where: At Watt Dhammarangsi in West Linn. Behind the Sand Mountain, in the field next to the swing set.

Top three groups / individuals in each game will receive awards, and all participants get treats!  Prizes have been donated by CACO.

Leak Kanseng (Hiding Towel)
Children sit in a circle facing each other.  Another child walks around the circle and and tries to secretly drop a towel behind one of the sitting children, and run away.  The sitting child tries to grab the towel and beat the walking/running child before he/she gets away.

Teanh Proath (Pulling Rope)
Two opposing teams, try to pull the rope over to their side until one side collapses.

Compete for a tree branch
A tree branch is placed in middle between two teams. One person from each team will be called to compete and grab the branch before the other can catch him/her.

Sack Jumping
Children race against each other along a course, by jumping along in sacks. The fastest is the winner.

Carrying Eggs
Teams of children walk/run in a relay to carry the most eggs across to the other side.  The eggs must be balanced on a spoon and held by the mouth.  Whoever drops has to go back to get another egg.

Hula Hoop
Keep the hoop in motion around the hip. The person who could do it longest wins!

Chol Chhoung (Throwing scarf ball)
Boys and girls divide into opposing teams, standing in two lines, opposing each other.  They take turns throwing a scarf ball at each other.  Which ever side gets hit has to dance, while the other side sings.
