Uposatha observance days are known in Khmer as “ngai sul”, when virtues (silas) are cultivated, and are a chance for an individual and the community to renew / reboot.  They occur about every two weeks on the half, full, and new moon days.

For the lay, the eight precepts (training vows) are observed, which can enhance their mindfulness (sati) and meditation (samadhi) practices.

On uposatha days that fall on the new or full moon, monastics gather to recite the Patimokkha (monastic rules of conduct) and confess any transgressions to the entire Sangha.

Some lay come to the Wat, starting from the previous day to participate in the evening ceremony, and then stay most of the next day to observe Uposatha.

Some bring offerings to the monastics for the morning Uposatha ceremony.  However, please visit or bring offering any day of the week, because monks are not fasting for the entire week period to eat only on Uposatha days!
